PORTLAND, Maine — A price monitoring website says average retail gasoline prices in Maine have risen 2.3 cents per gallon in the past week.

MaineGasPrices.com says Sunday’s average price in Maine, $2.91 per gallon, compares with the national average that’s increased 5.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.85 per gallon.

Maine’s latest average gasoline price is 16 cents per gallon higher than it was the same day one year ago.

World oil prices rose last week as the U.S. Federal Reserve decided to sink $600 billion into buying Treasurys over the next eight months to stimulate the sluggish economy by lowering long-term interest rates. Today, oil fell below $87 a barrel.
