BAILEYVILLE, Maine — Repairs were under way Monday to a recovery boiler at Woodland Pulp LLC, formerly Domtar, after a pressure part failed late Saturday night.
Scott Beal, mill spokesman, said Monday that an end cap blew off the boiler and ripped through some insulation but caused no injuries. No shifts were cancelled.
Beal said the part failure allowed steam to escape.
He said the boiler is part of the black liquor process, which burns the liquor and creates an inorganic sodium that is recovered.
Beal said the mill continues to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
