HAMPDEN — Emily Lane was sent in alone by teammate Kara Singleton and scored with 9:58 remaining in overtime, lifting Sacopee Valley of South Hiram to a 2-1 victory over Fort Kent in Saturday’s Class C girls state championship soccer game.

Lane also set up a second-half goal by Singleton to provide coach Kevin Murphy’s Hawks with the program’s first state championship.

Courtney Ross was forced to make only four saves while facing six shots as Sacopee Valley capped its season with a 16-1-1 record.

“There’s a group of us that have been playing together since we were really, really young,” Ross said. “I think over the years we’ve learned our tendencies.”

Sacopee Valley, which had a sub-.500 record last year, finally put it together behind a large crew of 10 seniors.

Alexis Desjardins scored the tying goal on a direct kick from 30 yards out with 8:56 left in regulation. Coach Robby Nadeau’s Warriors ended the season 14-3-1.

Carissa Pelletier made seven saves on 16 shots for Fort Kent.

“She was a solid goalie. She was very, very good,” Lane said of Pelletier.
