SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine — Another search party for missing resident Pete Peterson is being organized for Saturday, Nov. 6, according to officials.

People who want to help look for Peterson are asked to meet at Pemetic School in downtown Southwest Harbor at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Peterson, 61, has been missing since Sept. 23. Peterson, who has developmental disabilities, enjoys reading and horses and has been known to hitchhike long distances to visit bookstores, libraries and horse farms.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety, the body of a man was found Friday in the northern Penobscot County town of Stacyville. The man’s description does not match the one for Peterson that police have been distributing.

The man in Stacyville was found wearing a blue and white knit cap with the name “Chris” marked inside, blue and white plaid button-down shirt, khaki pants, size 10 white New Balance sneakers, and a brown jacket, according to a statement from DPS spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Peterson, who has been living on his own, is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 230 pounds. He is bald, has a gray beard, walks with a limp and has a lazy eye, according to police. He is believed to have been wearing bluejeans, brown shoes and a gray hooded sweatshirt when he last was seen.

Officials with the Southwest Harbor Police Department said they have contacted dozens of organizations in and out of Maine to help distribute information about Peterson and to see whether anyone might know something about where he is or may have been since he was reported missing. Several area police departments participated in earlier searches in Hancock County in an effort to find some trace of the missing man.

Additional information about Peterson and efforts to find him can be found on the Southwest Harbor Police Department’s Facebook page.
