WINTERPORT — Winterport Open Stage will present “Almost, Maine” by John Cariani at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12-13 and Nov. 19-20, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 and 21, at Wagner Middle School, Mountainview Drive.

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal and the hearts mend — or nearly so — in this midwinter night’s dream.

The casting is unique to the production, said show producer and co-director Jeri Misler. Nine different couples ranging in age from 25 to 65 bring these characters to life. Three of the couples are real-life married couples, which brings an interesting dynamic to this production, she said.

“Using real-life couples makes the process exciting on many levels. The actors relate to each other in a way that is both familiar (given their relationship status) and unfamiliar (given the fact that they are exploring a different couple’s issues),” Misler said. “The age range of the couples adds to the appeal. John Cariani has written fully-dimensional people who experience love and loss at varying stages in their lives. I’m very proud that we have 16 adult actors involved. It brings truth and richness to the production.”

The play is produced by Jeri Misler. Directors are Brianne Beck, Jenny Hart, Erika Lougee, Jeri Misler, Cassy Palmer, Anne Tatgenhorst and Dominick Varney. Cast members are Brianne Beck, James Clayton, Suzy Currie, Steven Douglas, Jenny Hart, Aaron Hart, Marty Kelley, Erika Lougee, Stefan Metropoulos, Kelly Nelson-Santiago, Gavin Pickering, Amanda Pomeroy, Sheridan Rawcliffe, Rudy Rawcliffe, Jim Shue, Gary Sund, Anne Tatgenhorst and Jim Tatgenhorst.

Admission is $8, $5 students and seniors. Tickets are available at Molly’s in downtown Winterport. For more information, visit www.winterportopenstage.com.
