AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Gov.-Elect Paul LePage says he’s accepting an invitation from the White House to attend a reception for newly elected governors.
An adviser to President Barack Obama who called to extend congratulations to Maine’s Republican governor-elect also invited him to a White House reception for new governors on Dec. 2 in Washington.
Asked about it Friday, LePage left no doubt about his intentions. “Absolutely, I’ll be there,” he said.
LePage has also received congratulations from Democratic Gov. John Baldacci, who’s invited LePage and his wife to a lunch with Baldacci and his wife. LePage said Baldacci’s been gracious in offering his assistance as the transition begins.
During the campaign, LePage attracted national attention after telling an audience, “As your governor, you’re going to be seeing a lot of me on the front page, saying ‘Governor LePage tells Obama to go to hell.’”
