Former Maine teacher sentenced for sex crime

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — A former Maine teacher convicted of transporting a minor across state lines with the intent of engaging in sexual activity is going to spend 12 years in federal prison.

The sentence was imposed on 29-year-old James Raymond on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Portland.

Raymond was accused of taking an 11-year-old girl to a New Hampshire amusement park and inappropriately touching her for sexual gratification.

During his April trial, Raymond denied inappropriately touching the girl while on a water ride. Prosecutors, meanwhile, focused Raymond’s interest in young girls and his purchase of access to child pornography websites.

In 2008, the former music teacher from Auburn was found guilty of five charges of unlawful sexual touching and three counts of assault involving former students.
