Auction 2010 is now open! The auction will run from Nov. 3 to Dec. 3 (10 p.m.). All auction proceeds — your bids — go directly to support the mission programs and operations of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail.

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) links the waterways of New York, Vermont, Québec, New Hampshire and Maine.

According to the trail’s website, the route’s variety of flat water, swift water, and whitewater, on a range of rivers, streams, lakes and ponds provide extensive opportunities for canoe and kayak recreation. Vibrant communities along the way offer inns, B&Bs and camping facilities, as well as other recreational and heritage attractions.

NFCT offers maps, books, and web-based tools to help paddlers connect to the 740-mile paddling route that traces history from early Native Americans through European settlers, according to information on the trail’s website. NFCT also introduces paddlers to the places and people that make waterway destinations along our route in the Adirondacks and Northern New England inviting and exciting today.

This year’s record-breaking auction catalog is opening with 477 items. The NFCT said they have their best selection of boats ever, paddle gear to outfit canoeists and kayaks of all sorts, new and returning regional experiences.

Among the items this year are two copies of NFCT’s Official Guidebook, signed by all five authors. Also featured this year is an Old Town Canoes & Kayak classic wood Guide 16 that “was hand-shaped on hundred year old cedar forms by artisans whose craft has been handed down from generation to generation. Inspired by the Native American birch bark canoe, the Guide 16 paddles as beautifully as it looks.”
