BUCKSPORT, Maine — Voters adopted changes to the town charter and elected municipal officials during balloting Tuesday.
Voters approved the charter changes by a vote of 1,487 to 333. The changes reflect the new school reorganization in which the schools and budgets are now administered through a regional school unit. They also clarify the conditions of employment for the town manager, including authorizing the Town Council to set a specific length for a town manager’s contract.
The changes also call for an annual evaluation of the town manager and changes in the language to make it gender-neutral.
In municipal elections, incumbent Town Councilors Robert Howard and David Keene were unopposed for new three-year terms on the council. Howard received 1,478 votes; Keene received 1,711.
Scott Frazier won a three-year seat on the RSU 25 committee with 1,783 votes. He also was unopposed for the seat, which was vacated by Paul Bissonnette, who chose not to seek re-election.
