BANGOR, Maine — Closing arguments in the double murder trial of Rory Holland began Wednesday morning at the Penobscot Judicial Center after
6½ days of testimony.
Jurors were expected to begin deliberations soon after Superior Court Justice Roland Cole completed final instructions in how they should apply the law.
Rory Holland is on trial in Bangor in the death of 19-year-old Gage Greene and his 21-year-old brother, Derek, at about 1 a.m. June 30, 2009. Holland’s attorneys have said he was fearful for his life and fired in self-defense when the brothers and others passed by his house after a night out drinking.
Prosecutors, who rested their case on Monday, said Holland was not justified in pulling a handgun from his waistband and shooting the brothers.
Holland’s attorneys finished their defense on Tuesday afternoon. Holland did not testify on his own behalf.
