DAYTON, Maine — Officials say a fire that destroyed the Outlaws motorcycle gang clubhouse in southern Maine appears to have been an accident.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office said Monday that Sunday night’s fire in Dayton likely started near a propane water heater in a mobile home attached to the clubhouse.

Meanwhile, a federal jury in Virginia is deliberating in the racketeering trial of four Outlaws members accused of being part of a criminal enterprise responsible for violent crimes in multiple states, including Maine, most of them part of a turf war with the rival Hells Angels motorcycle gang.

A former Outlaws enforcer pleaded guilty in Portland last month to charges stemming from the 2009 shooting of a rival Hells Angels club member in the town of Anson.
