Governor’s Restaurant announces poll results

With a new governor comes the need for a new staple on the menu of a well-known Maine restaurant chain. Patrons of Governor’s Restaurants have voted and the winner of this year’s Governor Burger poll was Paul LePage with 39 percent of the vote.

“Our customers have had a lot of fun with this,” Randy Wadleigh, president and CEO of Governor’s Management Co., said Monday in a news release. “While Paul LePage won our Governor Burger poll, the true poll will be taken [on Election Day] — and that winner will officially be the namesake of our new Governor Burger.”

The Governor Burger poll results are:

Eliot Cutler (I) – 20.8 percent

Paul LePage (R) – 39 percent

Elizabeth Mitchell (D) – 24.5 percent

Shawn Moody (I) – 11.9 percent

Kevin Scott (I) – 3.5 percent

The current Governor Burger — a 100 percent prime beef patty, Swiss cheese, sautéed mushrooms, and red onions — is named for Gov. John Baldacci.

The new governor’s name will grace a customer favorite; the bacon-cheese burger: a one-third pound prime beef patty topped with Cheddar cheese, two bacon strips, lettuce and tomato and served on a homemade roll. According to Wadleigh, the new Governor Burger will be available at all six Governor’s Restaurants after the inauguration.

Governor’s Restaurant has locations in Presque Isle, Old Town, Bangor, Waterville, Lewiston and South Portland. For information, visit www.governorsrestaurant.com.
