A University of Maine police officer on patrol late Tuesday near the school’s Student Fitness and Recreation Center noticed a group of students in the nearby woods and went to investigate, spokesman Joe Carr said Thursday.

“He found eight people in a group in that area,” he said. “He checked them out and determined there was some drug activity going on. The officer seized drug paraphernalia, a usable amount of marijuana and some beer.”

Students William Asbell, 19, and Duncan Lemabre, 18, were charged were possession of drug paraphernalia, Carr said, adding that Asbell also was charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana.

The other students in the group were referred to the school’s judicial affairs office, he said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

A Bangor man was arrested on a criminal threatening charge Friday afternoon after reportedly brandishing a rifle-style BB gun at his neighbors at an apartment building at the intersection of Curve and Market streets.

Shawn Cameron, 46, had been involved in a dispute with neighbors “over who was disturbing who” when Cameron allegedly fetched a BB gun and threatened to shoot them, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said Friday.

Cameron, who was taken to Penobscot County Jail, was released on bail later the same day, Hunt said. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
