ABBOT, Maine — Camp owners in the Blanchard, Piper Pond and Whetsone Pond areas are encouraged to check their camps after a motorist reported some suspicious activity.
The motorist called police Wednesday morning and reported that he had observed a man run from a camp and jump into a truck that spun out of a driveway at a high rate of speed, according to Lt. Robert Young of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.
Young said Investigators Jamie Kane and Allen Emerson checked the camps in the area where the truck had been spotted but found nothing amiss. They did find the truck fitting the description provided by the caller and stopped it, he said.
The two Bangor-area men inside told police they had cleaned out a Dover-Foxcroft home as requested by the owner and then left thinking they were headed back to Bangor. They told the officers they got lost in Abbot instead.
Young said the officers verified that some of the items had come from the Dover-Foxcroft home, while other items had not. The pickup truck was loaded with copper wiring, a metal chimney and other items, he said.
