FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Patriots coach Bill Belichick can’t remember a league official praising a player the way Brandon Meriweather has been praised for playing cleanly.

NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson praised the New England safety and Pittsburgh’s James Harrison on Monday for avoiding illegal hits on Sunday after both had been fined for making such hits a week earlier.

Belichick said Monday with a smirk that he thinks it’s great that officials are now evaluating players and their performance. He also said the Patriots complied with every league memo and regulation that it had last week regarding such collisions.
