BELFAST, Maine — A Northport woman was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when she lost control of her pickup truck while reportedly attempting to brake for another vehicle.

Michelle Bailey, 50, was driving toward Belfast on Back Belmont Road when she crested a hill and encountered a vehicle that was pulling into a driveway. Police said Bailey’s brakes apparently locked up and her Chevy Colorado pickup went off the right side of the road.

The truck then swerved back onto the road and flipped several times before coming to rest against a tree over an embankment on the left side of the road, Officer Eric Kelley with the Belfast Police Department said Saturday evening.

Crews from the Belfast Fire Department extricated Bailey from the vehicle and took her to a hospital. She later was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Kelley said speed may have been a factor in the crash but that the investigation was continuing.
