MILLINOCKET and BANGOR – Allan Everett Symonds Sr., 87, passed away Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at a Bangor health care facility after a period of declining health. He was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Medford, Mass., the son of Arthur Varney and Dorothy (Ballentine) Symonds. Allan was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northeastern University, and was a certified public accountant. He spent his career in financial management, working as an auditor for Great Northern Paper Co., eventually transferring to New York City, where he became manager, corporate profit planning for Great Northern Nekoosa. Allan went on to serve as vice president of finance for Hendrix Electronics and also Claremont Paper Manufacturers, before retiring to Northern Maine in the late 1980s, and eventually settled in Millinocket to be closer to his camp. He was a 50-year member of Russell Lodge, AF & AM, Arlington, Mass., and belonged to Lodge Council Chapter, Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Bangor. Allan married Barbara A. Twombly, Aug. 23, 1952, and together they shared 56 years together, raising three children. Barbara predeceased Allan, Dec. 24, 2008. In addition to his wife, Allan was predeceased by a twin brother, Arthur Symonds. He is survived by three children, Allan E. Symonds Jr. and wife, Paula, of Gastonia, N.C., Cheryle Levesque and husband, Phil, of Hampden, and Bruce Symonds and wife, Helen, of Deerfield, N.H.; six grandchildren, Shawn, Tracy, Kristen, Ashley, Amy and Bryan; a great-grandson, Dean Michael Symonds; a brother, Carl Symonds and wife, Florence, of South Royalston, Vt.; a sister, Betty Irving and husband, Robert, of West Medford, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Friends are invited to visit with the family noon Saturday until the service begins.
