Outdoor adventure center open in Calais

CALAIS, Maine — Washington County Community College’s Outdoor Adventure Center is open for business this fall offering programs and equipment rental related to outdoor adventure.

The Outdoor Adventure Center is accepting registrations for an eight-week rock climbing program for ages 8-18. The program covers climbing technique, movement over rock, and technical belay techniques with an emphasis on safety and fun. The sessions are held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, starting Oct. 25. The cost for the program is $65 per person, maximum 12 participants. Call 454-1060 to register.

In addition to the formal climbing program, the center has public hours from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays on its climbing wall in St. Croix Hall. People ages 5 and up are invited to try climbing for the first time and find out what it’s all about. The adventure center also hosts birthday parties on the climbing wall as well as private instruction and workshops.

The Outdoor Adventure Center gear rental center is open 2-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday for those who wish to sign out outdoor equipment such as mountain bikes, canoes, kayaks, cross-country skis and a huge selection of camping gear.
