OLD TOWN, Maine — The city of Old Town has hired a new public works director, City Manager Peggy Daigle announced Monday.

John E. Rouleau Jr. of Milford has been selected for the position that opened up when former director David Wight retired last month.

According to Daigle, Rouleau will oversee the planning, organizing and directing of all public works operations and projects, including fleet management, stormwater management, solid waste and recycling, cemetery and park maintenance, and city facility and airport operations management.

“We are very excited to welcome John to our team,” City Manager Peggy Daigle said in a news release issued on Monday. “David Wight served the City very well for a good number of years and we thank him for his service.

“I’m happy that we’ve found a replacement with the skills and experience of John Rouleau,” Daigle said, adding, “I’m confident that the transition will be seamless and that Old Town will continue to grow with John as an important member of the City’s staff and community.”

Before he was tapped to lead Old Town’s public works department, Rouleau most recently served as a project superintendent for Pizzagalli Construction Co., headquartered in South Burlington, Vt. Before that, Rouleau worked as a project manager for Sargent Corp. in Stillwater.

A graduate of Eastern Maine Technical College in Bangor, Rouleau received a bachelor’s degree in structural design and construction engineering technology from Penn State University in 1998.

Daigle said Wight would stay on with the city in a temporary role as a contracted public works project specialist.

That role will require him to ensure that all projects under construction meet city engineering expectations and to work with other city projects, such as the revitalization of downtown and other development projects in Old Town.
