AUGUSTA (AP) — Home heating oil prices continue to rise in Maine as the tempera-ture outside falls.

Energy officials said Monday that the average cash price was $2.76 a gallon, up three cents from last week.

A weekly survey of prices found a high of $2.97 per gallon in northern Maine and a low of $2.54 in the western part of the state.

Energy Director John Kerry says Northeast households who heat mostly with oil are pro-jected to spend a total of $2,201 to heat their homes this winter, which is an increase of $259, or 13 percent over last winter, according to the Energy Infor-mation Administration.
