Poll: Michaud, Pingree ahead in races for US House

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Republican Dean Scontras has gained on Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree in Maine’s 1st Congressional District, but she still leads by 15 percentage points in a new poll. To the north, there’s a similar margin with Democratic Rep. Mike Michaud leading Republican challenger Jason Levesque by 13 percentage points.

The Critical Insights poll conducted for MaineToday Media found that 18 percent of likely voters were undecided in the 1st District, and a quarter were undecided in the 2nd District.

In the 2nd District, Levesque says Michaud’s support among likely voters remains below 50 percent, giving him confidence in the final weeks of the campaign. In the 1st District, Scontras says his numbers are moving up.

The poll sampled 300 voters in each district on Oct. 11 and 12. Margin of error was 6 percentage points.
