BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man who was struck by a pickup truck while walking on Hammond Street on Tuesday evening has died.
Robert Royal, 53, was taken by ambulance Tuesday to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was being treated for head trauma. Bangor police said he died shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Police went to the accident scene at about 6 p.m. Tuesday. James Nadeau, 49, of Hermon was driving a 2005 GMC truck and struck Royal as Nadeau was making a turn from Hildreth Street onto Hammond Street.
Nadeau was uninjured and his vehicle had only minor damage, according to police.
Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Thursday that the state medical examiner’s office would conduct an examination of Royal to determine the exact cause of death.
The accident is still under investigation, but police said earlier this week that charges against Nadeau are not expected.
