LIMESTONE, Maine — In celebration of National Refuge Week, the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge will be holding special activities during an open house on Saturday, Oct. 16, and Sunday, Oct. 17.

On both days, members of the Friends of the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge will be on location coordinating new events this year, which include a one-hour walk from approximately 1:30-2:30 p.m. to Chapman Pond and a family scavenger hunt at 3 p.m., with little prizes available for children.

A tried and tested fan-favorite, the weapons storage area of the former Loring Air Force Base which housed the components for nuclear weapons will be open for either guided or self-guided tours.

The Nature Store in the visitor’s center will also be open on Saturday and Sunday.

Additional information can be obtained by calling the center at 328-4634 or by calling FANWR President Betty Rinehart at 498-2173.
