Maine order promotes vaccinations at school

Bangor Daily News

AUGUSTA — An executive order by Gov. John Baldacci is promoting school-based vaccination clinics.

The order Baldacci signed Tuesday protects school districts and other vaccination clinic participants from liability. During the H1N1 emergency last year, many school districts said concerns over potential liability put at risk their ability to provide vaccination clinics.

Baldacci says Maine was very successful in vaccinating children during the H1N1 emergency. He says that while the threat of a pandemic appears to have passed, the flu continues to pose a risk, especially to children and pregnant women.

Baldacci’s order provides immunity from liability for approved health care workers who administer the flu vaccines.
