AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — An executive order by Gov. John Baldacci is promoting school-based vaccination clinics.

The order Baldacci signed Tuesday protects school districts and other vaccination clinic participants from liability. During the H1N1 emergency last year, many school districts said concerns over potential liability put at risk their ability to provide vaccination clinics.

Baldacci says Maine was very successful in vaccinating children during the H1N1 emergency. He says that while the threat of a pandemic appears to have passed, the flu continues to pose a risk, especially to children and pregnant women.

Baldacci’s order provides immunity from liability for approved health care workers who administer the flu vaccines.

Alright, the State and schools are immune from liability. Now when are they going to make the vaccines mandatory?

It’s a great idea to have the flu vaccine available at the schools for those who want a flu shot. I hope no one tries to make it mandatory.

Vaccinating against the flu is a personal choice but I think it’s a good idea to make the vaccine easily accessible, school is the perfect environment for a bug like this to spread quickly.

I get the vaccine every year since I can’t afford to get the flu and be down for 1-2 weeks
