Should the Taliban be brought to the table?

Afghanistan leader Hamid Karzai’s government has, according to some news reports, been meeting with representatives of the exiled Taliban government. Is this a good sign, suggesting that a brokered peace deal may be reached? Or does it portend the failure of

the U.S.-backed government and U.S. forces to win the hearts and minds of the Afghani people?
