Police arrest Mass. mother, son in drug case

The Associated Press

SOUTH PORTLAND — Police in Maine say a 60-year-old Massachusetts woman is facing drug trafficking charges from a case in which her 39-year-old son also was arrested.

Police say they received information on Sunday that drug traffickers were staying at a hotel on the Maine Mall Road.

After watching the room, police conducted a traffic stop and arrested Mattie Brown of Randolph, Mass., and charged her with drug offenses. Her son Robert Brown, also from Massachusetts, was charged with refusal to submit to arrest and detention.

Police say they seized more than 50 grams of what they believe to be heroin as well as about an ounce of suspected cocaine, prescription painkillers and almost $10,000 in cash.

Mattie Brown is being held for lack of $100,000 cash while her son has posted bail.
