Maine state govt shut down Friday

AUGUSTA, Maine — Most Maine state employees are getting another unpaid day off, giving them an extra-long Columbus Day weekend.

Game wardens, state troopers, rangers and others whose jobs are deemed essential are on duty Friday, and state parks, historic sites and campgrounds will remain open. But most state offices will be closed as a cost-saving measure to help balance the budget.

Friday is the fourth of 10 state government closure days for the current fiscal year. Six more shutdown days are scheduled through next May.
