ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Texas Rangers have designated pitcher Rich Harden for assignment and claimed right-hander Ryan Tucker on waivers from Florida.
The moves were announced after the Rangers beat Tampa Bay 5-1 in Game 1 of the ALDS on Wednesday.
Harden was left off the postseason roster after going 5-5 with a 5.58 ERA in 20 games, including 18 starts, this season. The right-hander, who began the season as the Rangers’ No. 2 starter, struggled with his control, walking 62 over 92 innings.
Tucker went 0-5 with a 6.15 ERA in 7 starts for Triple-A New Orleans. He also pitched at Class A Jupiter and with the Gulf Coast League Marlins this year. Tucker also went 2-3 with an 8.27 ERA over 13 games with the Marlins in 2008 before missing most of the 2009 season due to knee and oblique injuries.
