HELEN L. STANWOOD CAMDEN – Helen Louise Stanwood, 76, went home to be with her Lord Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, in Camden. Born Sept. 22, 1934, in Milbridge, she was the daughter of Arthur and Harriett (Marsh) Stanwood. A graduate of Milbridge High School and Farmington State Teachers College, she later returned to school and obtained her Master of Science degree in mathematics. She taught sixth grade in Madison, Skowhegan, Ellsworth and Hope, where she retired. Her hobbies included cooking, flower gardening, working outside, reading and tutoring students, which she did during her retirement years. Helen was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Victor, Philmore, Omar and Roger; and sisters, Virginia Bechard, Charlotte Godbout and Rita Stanwood. Surviving are several nieces and nephews; and her special friend and caregiver, Shirley Marshall of Camden, who along with niece, Mary Helen, were by her side at the time of her passing. The family expresses their appreciation to Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, including Susan, Sylvia, Karl and Dr. Ira Mandell. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. Interment will be after at Amesbury Hill Cemetery, Rockport.
