PORTLAND, Maine — The Rev. James MacGee, 80, has been assigned to St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Howland, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland announced Wednesday.

MacGee began his assignment on Sept. 15.

He replaced the Rev. Leroy Landry, 74, who retired.

Both men and the pastor, the Rev. Roger Cyr, 77, are members of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The order, best-known by its abbreviation, OMI, is a Catholic religious order founded in 1816 by St. Eugene de Mazenod, a French priest from Marseilles.

MacGee served as pastor at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crawfordville, Fla., from 1994 until he moved to Maine earlier this year. Before 1994, MacGee’s assignments with the Oblates included archives secretariat, teacher and pastor, according to the diocese.

Landry was born in Millinocket and ordained in 1958 in Natick, Mass. He served as a seminary teacher, a missionary in Haiti from 1965 to 1999, and at St. Mary of Lourdes in Lincoln. He moved to St. Leo’s four years ago.

The diocese also announced Wednesday that the Rev. Robert V. Paskey, 75, had been appointed a part-time hospital chaplain at Mercy Hospital and Maine Medical Center in Portland. He replaced the Rev. Alfred Irving, who retired Oct. 1 after serving in that position for 14 months.

Paskey was ordained a priest in 1966 in the Society of Jesus. He served as a chaplain to the military in Vietnam, worked with Catholic Relief Services to set up refugee camps for Cambodians escaping to Thailand and later in similar camps in Somalia.

During the 1990s, he served at St. Ann Catholic Church, Pleasant Point; St. Christopher Catholic Church, Peaks Island; and St. Peter Catholic Church, Bingham.

Irving was ordained in 1971. His assignments in the diocese included St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newcastle; Our Lady Queen of Peace, Boothbay Harbor; St. Mary Catholic Church, Presque Isle; St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mars Hill; Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou; St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield; St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone; St. Benedict Catholic Church, Benedicta; and St. Ann Catholic Church, Pleasant Point.
