Pharmacist arrested again on bail violation report

BANGOR, Maine — A pharmacist arrested last week on a charge of acquiring drugs by deception was arrested again Tuesday morning after police reportedly found him in violation of his bail conditions.

Noah Farrington, 27, was arrested on Sept. 30 on the drug charge after loss prevention personnel at the Walgreens pharmacy on Oak Street noticed small amounts of the painkiller hydrocodone missing, including during a period when Farrington was the only employee at the pharmacy, police Sgt. Larry Weber said Tuesday night, citing a police report.

Among the conditions of his release after last Thursday’s arrest, Farrington was not to use or possess illegal drugs and alcohol, and he was required to submit to drug testing without probable cause, Weber said.

When city police showed up at his Elm Street apartment for a routine bail check Tuesday, they found an unidentified white powder and a container of yellow fluid on a shelf in Farrington’s closet.

The powder tested negative for cocaine, Weber said. He said Farrington reportedly told officers the liquid was urine. The police report indicated that Farrington said he sometimes urinates into a container in his bedroom when the bathroom in the apartment he shared with others was occupied.

When officers called in a Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agent to administer a urine test, Farrington reportedly tried to use urine from a container elsewhere in his bedroom in an attempt to avoid a positive result for drugs, Weber said.

Weber said the police report indicated Farrington admitted to having taken some of his brother’s medication.

Police also said Farrington looked like he had been drinking all night and found 17 bottles of beer in the cab of Farrington’s truck, which amounted to another violation. When Farrington arrived at Penobscot County Jail, where he remained late Tuesday night, he refused to undergo a urine test. Weber said.
