Gas prices are climbing – is it time for 60 mpg?

A survey of gasoline prices in Maine shows a 19-cent rise in the per-gallon price over the course of 2010. Does this come as a surprise? Is this a sign of the economy recovering?

Could prices spike to $4 per gallon again? Does the rise in price make the case for the federal government to push vehicle manufacturers toward a 60-mpg fleet average?
