Two men accused of stealing marijuana from police garage

The Associated Press

FARMINGTON, Maine — Police say two men face charges after allegedly breaking into a police storage garage and stealing several hundred marijuana plants that had been seized a day earlier.

Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Director Roy McKinney said Monday that 29-year-old Todd Welch and 26-year-old Joshua Allen, both of New Sharon, face burglary and other charges.

Agents last month uprooted the plants in Phillips and arrested a 64-year-old man and his 45-year-old son. The plants were taken to Farmington and stored in the police storage garage. The next day, police found the garage door pried open and the plants missing.

Police say they’ve recovered remnants of some of the pilfered plants, some of which still had evidence tape wrapped around the stalks.
