PORTLAND, Maine — The Maine Supreme Judicial Court is going to school this week.
On Monday, the court will hear three cases at Edward Little High School in Auburn. The justices hear three more appeals at Windham High School on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the court will sit at Waterville High School.
Students will receive copies of the briefs in advance of the appeals, and after the oral arguments the lawyers will stay to answer questions from students.
Chief Justice Leigh Saufley said the school events give students a chance to see the practice of appellate law that’s rarely seen on television or in movies.
Saufley said the justices learn as much about the state when they meet with the students as the students and the public learn about the judicial branch.
