DEER ISLE – Richard M. Pratt, 81, passed away Oct. 2, 2010, in Blue Hill. He was born April 19, 1929, in Peterborough, N.H., the son of Ernest J. and Frances (Smith) Pratt. Richard grew up in Jaffrey, N.H., and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire and received his master’s degree from Colby College. He was a high school math and science teacher in North Bennington, Vt., Kezar Falls, West Paris and York, with the final 17 years of his teaching career on Deer Isle. He worked for Bangor Hydro for several years after retiring from teaching. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing and sailing. He was a longtime member of Sunshine Advent Christian Church and the local American Legion. Richard was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Phillip, Robert, John and David. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sally; sister, Patricia Lord and husband, Charles, of Peterborough, N.H.; son, Jonathan and wife, Kelly, of Deer Isle; son, Timothy and wife, Susan, of Lyman; grandchildren, Jeremy and Andrew Pratt, Wayne and Roger Diffen, and Dawn Hodge; several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Stonington. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Sunshine Advent Christian Church.
