PORTLAND, Maine — A new poll shows Democrat Libby Mitchell and Republican Paul LePage are in a statistical dead heat in the race to become Maine governor.

In a poll by Critical Insights, 30 percent of likely voters said they support Mitchell and 29 percent said they’re for LePage. Of the three independents, 9 percent favored Eliot Cutler and 5 percent were for Shawn Moody, while Kevin Scott didn’t receive any support.

The poll was conducted for MaineToday Media, which publishes the Portland Press Herald, Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel newspapers. The survey of 405 registered voters was conducted Monday and has a margin of error of 4.9 percentage points.
