BIDDEFORD, Maine — Scarborough Downs is unveiling the site in Biddeford where it wants to build a new harness racing track, hotel and entertainment complex if voters give their approval for slot machines.
Scarborough Downs and New Hampshire-based Ocean Properties Ltd. announced Wednesday they will work together to build a facility on 85 acres of city-owned land west of the Maine Turnpike. Backers say the facility would create 500 full-time jobs and provide $5 million in annual tax revenues to the city.
Biddeford voters in November will vote on whether they support a racino. Statewide voter approval also would be required before a racino could be built.
Scarborough Downs is now located in Scarborough, where voters two years ago rejected a ballot measure that would have allowed slot machines at the track.
