BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man arrested last month after an armed standoff at his 85-year-old grandmother’s house in Holden has been indicted by the Penobscot Count grand jury.

Daniel Day, 25, was indicted Wednesday on charges of terrorizing, reckless conduct, and two counts each of robbery and criminal mischief.

Day was arrested Aug. 28 after he allegedly fired off several rounds in the backyard of his grandmother’s home on Mann Hill Road, including one shot that splintered the bark of a tree branch 3 feet above the head of one of the police officers called to the area.

“I have an American flag for all your wives,” Day told police during the incident, according to reports filed by law enforcement personnel with the Maine State Police, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and Holden police.

After Day surrendered and was arrested, police determined he had a .223-caliber assault rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and a .38-caliber revolver in his possession. The guns belonged to Day, who apparently brought them in his car when he drove from his Bangor apartment to Holden, according to police reports.

Day also is accused of using a pistol to coerce cash from his grandmother and of causing several thousand dollars in damage to his grandmother’s windows, doors and living room carpet.
