Soldier with Maine ties killed in Afghanistan

AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. John Baldacci says a soldier with ties to Maine has been killed in Afghanistan.

Baldacci says 21-year-old Pfc. Clinton Springer II died Friday in Kabul, Afghanistan. Springer was a member of Company C, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry out of Fort Drum, N.Y. The circumstances of his death are under review.

Baldacci said Springer’s father lives in Sanford, Maine, while his mother and brother live in Massachusetts.
