Head-on crash in Ellsworth injures two

By Eric Russell, BDN Staff

ELLSWORTH, Maine — Two people were taken by ambulance to a local hospital Saturday afternoon after a head-on collision on Route 1 in front of Jordan’s Snack Bar.

The accident, involving a Toyota Camry sedan and a Pontiac Matrix SUV, happened just before 2:30 p.m. on the busy stretch of road.

Ellsworth police and fire officials were on the scene within minutes and placed two people into ambulances. They were taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

It wasn’t clear what caused the accident. Police were still investigating the crash Saturday afternoon and did not release the names of anyone involved.

Traffic was diverted for about a half-hour, police cleaned debris from the road, and two trucks removed the vehicles.
