BANGOR, Maine — Members of a New York City gospel choir will perform with a local church choir at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex St.

Roosevelt Andre Credit, 44, of New York City will join John Haskell, a well-known Maine music director, in the concert featuring gospel and blues. Singers from the choirs at the Essex Street church and the girls high school gospel choir Credit directs will perform.

Credit and Haskell presented a similar free concert two years ago in Bangor.

On Friday, the New York girls will sing with the Bangor High School Chamber Choir before touring Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor and having a lobster dinner.

Credit earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., and two master’s degrees in music — one in voice and opera performance and the other in conducting — from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

He was a featured performer at the Pennsylvania Inaugural Ball in Washington, D.C., and worship leader for the 2008 United Methodist Women Northeastern Jurisdictional Quadrennial Meeting. He recently starred in a Broadway revival of the musical “Show Boat.”

Saturday’s church concert will be preceded by a bean supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Tickets for the supper will be $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
