PORTLAND, Maine — Comedian Bob Marley has launched a nonstop standup routine in hopes of breaking the world record for long-winded joking.

Marley, who launched his bid Wednesday morning, hopes to tell jokes nonstop for 40 hours at the Comedy Connection in Portland. He’ll have to keep up the quips until 11 p.m. Thursday to surpass the record of 38 hours, 6 minutes, held by Lindsay Webb of Australia.

The Guinness Book of Records has strict rules: A timekeeper must be present, and there must be at least 10 audience members at all times.

The Portland Press Herald says proceeds from Marley’s quest will benefit the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
