BUCKSPORT – Alvin R. Gray Jr., 88, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, with his loving family by his side at his home. Born Feb. 3, 1922, in North Blue Hill, he was the son of Alvin Sr. and Iva (Appleby) Gray. Alvin served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for and retired from St. Regis Paper Co., after 40 years of service. Al was a dedicated husband and father, and was blessed with many wonderful friends. He was known for his gardening skills, a strong wit and someone who enjoyed the art of neighboring. He was a proud member of Elm Street Congregational Church, Bucksport. Al is survived by his daughter, Heidi (Gray) Golding and husband, Michael, of Orland, and their children, Jeffrey, Joshua and Erika; one son, Todd Gray and wife, Karen, of Keene, N.H.; and one nephew, Basil Closson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Neilia (Churchill) Gray, in April 2005; one daughter, Trudy Lynn; and siblings, Nellie (Gray) Closson, Susan Gray, infant brother and sister, James and Jenny Gray. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Orland, with the Rev. Linda A. Smith officiating. A gathering after the graveside service will be held at Elm Street Congregational Church’s Brown Hall, Elm Street, Bucksport.
