Car crash knocks power out in Orrington

ORRINGTON, Maine — A driver who swerved to avoid hitting a cat about 1 p.m. Sunday on Snows Corner Road struck a utility pole and knocked out power to the area, according to a Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputy.

Gregory Robbins, 20, of Orrington was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with minor leg injuries, Deputy Tom Rushmore said.

He was driving a 2006 Jeep Wrangler when he struck the pole, causing about $3,000 in damage to the vehicle.

According to information on Bangor Hydro-Electric Co.’s website, power was out on these roads: Brewer Lake Road, Dam Road, Dow Road, East Bucksport Road, Ellis Road, Fairwind Drive, Forest Knoll, Fowler Road, Kings Mountain Drive, Long Hill Road, Perkins Point Road, Salisbury Ridge Road, Sirrah Lane and Snows Corner Road.

Power was restored to the area by about 4:45 p.m.
