20-pound rock narrowly misses motorist’s head

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland man says he’s lucky to be alive after someone dropped a football-sized rock through the windshield of his car.

Peter Brichetto was moving through an intersection when someone heaved the rock from a railroad trestle. Bichetto, owner of Sonny’s Variety, says the rock missed his head by inches.

He says one second he was driving his 2002 Cadillac late Saturday. The next, people were asking if he was OK as he sat covered with glass with a 20-pound rock resting on his lap.

Police used a tracking dog to try to find the man who dropped the rock. The dog lost the suspect’s scent in Deering Oaks Park.
