CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire’s unemployment rate has dropped again — from 5.8 percent in July to 5.7 percent in August.

According to state data released Monday, the state added 150 jobs in August. The Nashua Telegraph reported it was the sixth straight month of employment gains.

Last month, Maine Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman announced the preliminary unemployment rate for Maine was 8.1 percent in July. The number of unemployed totaled 56,200, down 1,500 from a year ago. Maine reported 593,900 nonfarm payroll jobs in July, up 5,500 over the month.

“The picture in Maine is similar to the nation,” Fortman said. “Although there has been some job growth in 2010, the unemployment rate remains high.”

The national unemployment rate was 9.6 percent in August, an increase of one-tenth of a percent from July.

The figures released by New Hampshire Employment Security, and reported by The New Hampshire Union Leader, show the number of employed residents grew to 696,980 during August.
