MMA opens season with victory

  PAXTON, Mass. — Todd Murphy ran for touchdowns of 7 and 45 yards in the second quarter to highlight a 19-point outburst to help the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners of Castine beat the Anna Maria College Amcats 47-0 in football action Saturday.
   MMA continued to roll up points in the third quarter on two big plays when Nic Bourassa returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown and Matt Rende  ran for a 74-yard TD.
   The Mariners ended up with 492 total yards in the game, 472 on the ground, while holding Anna Maria to 141 yards.
   Rende led MMA’s running attack with 141 yards on 10 carries, while Murphy added 93 yards on four carries. Bourassa also had 88 yards on seven carries and Jim Bower had 78 yards on 12 carries, including a 7-yard TD to open the scoring.
   Robert Small paced Anna Maria with 40 yards on 14 carries.
