A vertical, 1-square-foot surface of a wood stove at a temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit will deliver to a room about 1,200 Btu an hour — 35 percent will be a convection contribution, and 65 percent will be in the from of radiation. The radiation component supplies the joy of a wood stove on a cold winter day.
