Sporting News poll ranks UMaine men first

    The University of Maine men’s basketball team has been picked to finish first in America East by The Sporting News, while Athlon magazine tabbed the Black Bears to finish fourth.

The Sporting News and Athlon are two of the country’s more highly-respected college basketball magazines.

Coach Ted Woodward’s Maine Black Bears return four starters and welcome junior college transfer Raheem Singleton while the returning cast is led by Gerald McLemore.

Stony Brook, which was picked to finish first in the Athlon poll, is ranked second by the Sporting News, followed by Boston University, Vermont, New Hampshire, Binghamton, Hartford, Albany and Maryland-Baltimore County.

BU was picked second in the Athlon poll, followed by UNH, Maine, Vermont, Binghamton, Hartford, Albany and UMBC.
